Gareth D Jones: Unofficially the second most widely translated science fiction short story author in the world
Now You See MeBy Gareth D JonesThi story is now under submission.
Looks like you are doing some character building here. I kinda feel like Balikind needs to exude pretentiousnous...Also as a suggested story direction, there a scene from that old Robert Redford movie "Jeremiah Johnson" where JJ comes across another mountain man dead and frozen. Who has a note pinned to his shirt that says something like:"I dun got the bear that dun got me."Just an idea to explore.
As Greg says, this story gives you a good sense of what Balikind is about, if not so much what he's like. The story lacked resolution, which is clearly deliberate but with all of the characters settling down to wait you expect something to happen. I'll be interested to see where you take this character - perhaps a follow-up to this piece?
I have a few ideas for Rufus. At the moment he's quite 2D, but I'm hoping to develop him a bit more.
