Rufus Balikind, whom I think of as a cross between Professor Challenger and Thomas Crown, previously appeared in Shooting Stars.

Also as a suggested story direction, there a scene from that old Robert Redford movie "Jeremiah Johnson" where JJ comes across another mountain man dead and frozen. Who has a note pinned to his shirt that says something like:
As Greg says, this story gives you a good sense of what Balikind is about, if not so much what he's like. The story lacked resolution, which is clearly deliberate but with all of the characters settling down to wait you expect something to happen.
I'll be interested to see where you take this character - perhaps a follow-up to this piece?

I have a few ideas for Rufus. At the moment he's quite 2D, but I'm hoping to develop him a bit more.
