Friday Flash Fiction: Frozen

Frozen
By Gareth D Jones

This story now appears in the Illuminations anthology.

This is the first time I've written a story in the present tense. I've always thought it a bit of an odd tense to write in, especially in the first person. When I conceived of this idea it just seemed the right way to write it though.

This reminded me of "Wait It Out" by Larry Niven, where the protagonist is frozen on the plains of Pluto and his thoughts crawl like glaciers during Pluto's "summer" as the distant sun warms his frozen body...

This has a punch. Especially when the reader realizes that the view point character has become one of them.

Mine was first person present tense this week as well...must be something in the air.
This one is agreeably nasty, well done.
