Stalker Award 2021 Long List

 The long list for the 2021 Stalker Awards - the Estonian genre awards  - is out. My story The Sound of Death has been long-listed for best short story translated in to Estonian. It was published in Reaktor in July 2020. 

The Sound of Death in Estonian

My alien murder mystery story The Sound of Death, which was first published at IGMS, is out today in Estonian at Reaktor magazine. This is the first translation of this story. 

It's my second story in Reaktor and my third to be translated into Estonian, following Travel by Numbers in Algernon and The Righteous Indignation of the Naked Mole Rat in Reaktor last year.

Estonian Stalker Award 2020 Voting List

The voting list for the 2020 Stalker award has appeared. It includes my story 'The Righteous Indignation of the Naked Mole Rat' along with, I presume, every other SFF story translated into Estonian last year.

The Gondolier in Voro

Voro is a language closely related to Estonian spoken by about 70,000 people in Estonia. It's also the 46th language that The Gondolier has been translated into.

Gondlisõudja

Mu gondli must nõna lõigaś laapsahe kanalidõ vagast vett. Klantsja loodsik olĺ minno häste tiinnü palĺo aastit, vidänü reisjit liina viiteid pite mu mitmõ põlvõ vanavanõmbidõ kamandava käe all.

Päiv olĺ muistidsõ liina kottal alla minemän ja viist sai tindikarva lint piinü mooduga liivakivihuunidõ vaihõl. Ma hingssi sügävält sisse jahhet õdagust tuulõhõngu.

Kas om üttegi ilosampa paika ku seo imeline kanalidõ liin? Ku loodsik hilĺokõisi umma valgmahe juusḱ, jäi ma rahul ollõn kaema üles, Marsi tummõs tõmbavahe taivahe.

Estonian Mole Rats

The Estonian translation of my story The Righteous Indignation of the Naked Mole Rat is now out at Reaktor.

I sent the story to them around 3 years ago and had given up all hope, so this was a nice surprise!




This is the third language for this story, following English and Spanish.

Stalker Awards Anounced

The results of Estonia's Stalker awards have been anounced. My story Travel By Numbers, translated for Algernon magazine by Juhan Habicht had been nominated in the 'Best Translated Story' catagory. It was voted joint 16th, out of 49 contenders. I'm very pleased with this as it's my first nomination for anything. :o)

The winner of the catagory was Charles Stross, and many of the others were translations from French or Russian whose names I didn't recognise.

Longlisted for the Stalker Award

My story Travel by Numbers has been longlisted for the Estonian SF Society's Stalker Award in the 'Best Translated Story' category. Voting is until July 11th and the results will be anounced in August.

I'm not sure how much of an accolade this is as there are 50 stories on the list - possibly every story translated into Estonian last year. Nevertheless it's nice to be noticed.

Double Figures

The Estonian translation of Travel by Numbers is now on-line at Algernon. Also in this issue is a story by Frank Roger, who has now been translated into 30 languages. I'm hoping to catch up one day. :o)

This makes my 10th publication so far this year, with another 13 already accepted.

Stories for Algernon

On Tuesday the Serbian translation of Travel by Numbers was published, and today I have news of another translation. Estonian webzine Algernon will be also be publishing Travel by Numbers in the near future.
