Dutch Accountability

 My short story Accountability has been accepted by Dutch genre magazine In Tenebris. They're a very well organised team - this is for the September 2026 issue!

This will be my fifth story in Dutch, and the first translation for this story.

Greek Quarantine

 My short story The Second Week of Quarantine, recently published at Black Cat Weekly, has been accepted by Greek magazine Ef-Zin to be published in the January issue - my first confirmed story for 2026. This will be my eighth story in that magazine, and my eleventh in Greek altogether.

A Breath of Fresh Air

 I'm very pleased to have sold a second story to Black Cat Weekly, following on from the recently-published The Second Week of Quarantine. This time it's my dieselpunk story A Breath of Fresh Air. It seemed like the ideal magazine, publishing as it does classic sci fi and historical fiction as well as new stories, and indeed the editor evidently thought the same.

A Farsi Response

 My short story In Response to Your Reader, first published in Nature magazine, has been accepted by Farsi magazine Metaphor Space. This will be my second story there, and the sixth language for this story.

Romanian Megafauna

My flurry of Yorick story publications is set to continue, with the third story Aurochs, Cave Bears and Other Charismatic Megafauna accepted by Romanian magazine Galaxia 42 and set to appear in the August issue.

So far this year , Yorick II was published in Romanian, Yorick IV in Slovenian and published as a podcast in English, and Yorick III reprinted in English in a Slovenian magazine. 

The Second Week of Quarantine

 I've sold my short story The Second Week of Quarantine to Black Cat Weekly, an online mixed-genre magazine that published new and classic stories. Not sure of the publication date yet, but soon I guess...

Romeo and the Robots

I'm very pleased to announce that I've sold my short story Romeo and the Robots to Nature magazine, my fifth sale to that august publication. I don't have a publication date yet, but presumably some time this year. 

This is my third Shakespearian science fiction story.

Galaxy's Game Side Stories

Between myself, Alex and Haydn, we've written several Galaxy's Game side stories. These are flash fiction length stories about side characters in the novel, either about what they were doing just before they turned up in the story, or what they did afterwards.

The first of these, The Last Noodle, has been accepted by Aphelion magazine. Hopefully the others will be too.

Slovenian Canines

 A day after my 2nd Yorick story was accepted by a Romanian magazine, my 4th Yorick story has been accepted by Supernova magazine to be published in Slovenian. No confirmed date yet, but some time later this year I guess. 

Romanian Haggis

 My second Yorick story, Haggis, Rhino and Other Unexpected Wildlife will be appearing in Romanian in the February issue of Galaxia 42 magazine, several years after the Romanian translation of the first Yorick story. Hopefully the rest of the series will follow on too. 

This will be my 5th story in Galaxia 42 and my 9th in Romanian altogether.

Galaxy's Game - The Serial

In rather wildly exciting news, my novel Galaxy's Game - the first novel I completed - is due to be published as a ten-part serial at Aphelion next year, starting in the February issue. Here's the tagline:

Interplanetary businessman Brett Hawkes and his companion the flying jellyfish-like alien Nirf get involved in intergalactic intrigue, planetary chaos, invasions, crash landings, sabotage and drinking tea. 

I wrote this novel over a galaxy-spanning three decades, and I have so much background information in the form of sketches of aliens, galactic charts, glossaries and side stories that I'm planning to add a new dedicated page to this website to make it all available. 

Look out for the saga to start in February!

Hiking in Latvia

 My short story Hiking In My Head has been accepted by Latvian literary magazine Strava, to be published late next year. It was originally published at Daily Science Fiction ten years ago and then published in Polish, and has enjoyed  a resurgence this year with translations in German, Romanian and Galician and a reprint at Commuter Lit. 

I now have 8 stories accepted that will appear some time over the course of the next year.

Dutch Observations

 I'm very pleased that my short story Observers has been accepted by Belgian magazine In Tenebris, to be published in issue #4 some time next year. Dutch will be the fifth language for this story.

Greek Observations

I'm very pleased that my short story Observers has been accepted by Greek magazine Ef Zin, to appear in the next issue early next year. This will be my seventh appearance in this magazine, and my tenth story in Greek altogether.

 

Ode to a Reprint

I'm very pleased to have sold a reprint of my futuristic farming story Ode to An Earthworm to Terrific Tomorrows, an anthology of optimistic SF. It was first published in the anthology Looking Landward a few years ago. It's due to be published next month.

Shockingly, this story has never appeared in translation! I must rectify that...

Novelette Acceptance

My novelette Hear You Scream has been accepted for publication by Farthest Star Publishing, who produce stand-alone e-book and paperback editions. I've seen some of their previous titles and they look great, so I'm very excited about this.

The main character in this story is deaf, so I've written the entire story with no sound whatsoever. No publication date confirmed as yet.

Yorick III PodCast

 My third Yorick story - Aurochs, Cave Bears and Other Charismatic Megafauna - has been accepted by the fabulous Tall Tale TV podcast, to appear at an as yet unspecified date. 

This will be the second or third appearance for this story, depending on when the Slovenian translation appears, and my seventh story at Tall Tale TV.

Venus of Poland

I'm very pleased to have sold my story Venus of Venus to long-running Polish magazine Nowa Fantastyka, to appear probably in July.

This will be my first appearance in this magazine, my fourth story in Polish and the third language for this story, following English and Hungarian.

Escapades in Punjabi

 My short story Escapades in Time is being translated into Punjabi to appear in Udaan (Flight) magazine in the near future. Punjabi is a new language for me and will be the 33rd language I've been published in!

This will be the sixth language for this story.

Two English Stories

In a break from my recent run of translated stories, I have sold a second new story in English - following on from my very short story to Stupefying Stories another has been accepted for an upcoming Dragon Gems anthology.
