Novel Anouncement

I omitted to included a link to this at the time, at Immersion Press:

'this year we hope to release a novella by Gareth D Jones'

It's a novella or short novel, depending on how you count these things. Plans aren't firmed up yet, but should be news coming soon...

Mammoth Reprint

I discovered today that Gord Sellar's story The Clockworks of Hanyang that first appeared in The Immersion Book of Steampunk edited by my very self, was reprinted in The Mammoth Book of Steampunk Adventures, published last year. The elephantine anthology also includes Aliette De Bodard's Memories in Bronze, Feathers and Blood that appeared in my anthology too, though as a reprint there.

It's a pleaseing affirmation of my taste in stories to have two of them reprinted in such a well-respected anthology series.

Book Review: Freefall by Mercurio D Rivera

I have read and enjoyed several of Mercurio D Rivera’s ‘Wergen’ stories in ‘Interzone’ over the past few years, so I was very pleased to receive a review copy of his new novella ‘Freefall’, set in the Wergen universe.

Vector Steampunk Review

The BSFA's Vector #269 came out in spring 2012, but I didn't receive a copy. Presumably lost in the post. I got a replacement copy today and it includes a nice review of The Immersion Book of Steampunk. As you would expect, the reviewer liked some stories more than others, but the final sentence is a satisfying acknowledgement of one of my aims:

As a whole though, the collection is a stylish and interesting collection of tales from authors who may normally live in the shadows cast by the zeppelins of more instantly recognisable heralds of the subgenre but here are given a chance to showcase their talents and do so in fine fashion

Becoming Academic

The Immersion Book of Steampunk was referenced in a lecture at Durham University. I feel quite academic now.

Steampunk Update

I noticed today that over on Goodreads, The Immersion Book of Steampunk has continuued to clock up ratings from readers. It now has a rating of 4.7 out of 5 stars, which is pretty fabulous.

Steampunk Cover Kudos

Charles Harbour, the artist behind the fabulous cover of The Immersion Book of Steampunk has more good news this week:

The Immersion Book of SteamPunk  cover has been accepted for inclusion in this year’s Spectrum: The Best in Contemporary Fantastic Art Book no.19

Pretty pleased as it’s pretty stiff competition to get in, with judges including Art directors from Blizzard, Wizards of the Coast and Disney.

Anthology Wins Steampunk Award

The Best of Steampunk Awards are given out annualy by the Steampunk Facebook group, the largest steampunk community on Facebook with almost 175,000 members.

Among this year's awards are:

Best Anthology "The Immersion Book of Steampunk" by Immersion Press

Best Short Fiction "Cinema U" by G. D. Falksen, published in The Immersion Book of Steampunk

It's a wonderful recognition of the fabulous stories I was fortunate enough to receive for the anthology.

New Immersion Steampunk Review

The new issue of Vector, the Critical Journal of the BSFA, includes a review of The Immersion Book of Steampunk.

In summary it says:

The Sound of Kulturkampf

You can now listen to Anatoly Belilovski's Kulturkampf on the Cast of Wonders podcast. It's a great little story and one of the first that I selected for The Immersion Book of Steampunk. This presentation, with accompanying soundtrack, is a marvel of steampunk audio.

First Review of the Year

I've seen a few positive comments and ratings for The Immersion Book of Steampunk in places such as Amazon and Goodreads, but the first full review has now appeared, on the Abyss and Apex website. Altogether it's pretty positive:

I love steampunk, but so rarely find one that will fit my magazine’s needs. So it was a pleasure to shuck off my editorial hat and just dive in and enjoy this collection of “everything steampunk could be.” Most of it went down well.

BSFA Award Nominations

Nominations for the BSFA awards have started making their way to the BSFA and the nominations so far have been posted. As I thought inevitable, the fabulous artwork for The Immersion Book of Steampunk has been nominated, along with one of the stories from the anthology. It will be another couple of months before the shortlist is anounced.

Immersion Steampunk Imminent

This weekend you'll be able to get your hands on The Immersion Book of Steampunk at FantasyCon in Brighton. Look out for the Immersion Press stall in the dealer hall.

Steampunk Anthology Update

The updated list of contributors for The Immersion Book of Steampunk is now on the Immersion Press website. Launch is now scheduled for FantasyCon in September. There are some fabulous stories for you to look forward to.

My second stop on the Codex blog tour is at the site of Gray Rinehart. Author, retired air force officer and contributing editor for Baen Books, Gray has interviewed me about editing The Immersion Book of Steampunk.

Immersion Steampunk Contributors Anounced

The list of contributors to The Immersion Book of Steampunk is now up on the Immersion Press website. Some well-known names, and some you may not have come across.

The book should be ready to launch in April.

Steampunk TOC Coming Soon

The Immersion Book of Steampunk is approaching completion. Stories are being proofread, biographies gathered, contracts signed and artwork is under way.

The final TOC will be anounced in the new year.

First Steampunk Contributor Anounced

I'm pleased to be able to reveal the first of the contributors to The Immersion Book of Steampunk: prolific short story author Paul Di Filipo.

We're pretty excited to have Paul on board. You can read the full anouncement at Immersion Press.

Other stories have arrived or are expected soon. Further anouncements will be forthcoming and the TOC will be confirmed in December.

Steampunk Anthology Developing

I've read several stories for the Immersion Book of Steampunk, and they're all pretty fantastic. I now have a full complement of contributors working away on their stories and so far I have a wide variety that encompasses adventure, romance, SF, espionage, fantasy and clockpunk, set in the past and the future.

The TOC should be finalised in December. It's going to be great.
